The innovation from Luleå is called Ozoneair and is an easy-to-use and fully automatic machine weighing 2.9-6.3 kg (depending on the size you choose).
It converts oxygen from the air into ozone gas, which removes odors, bacteria, and other microorganisms. The gas is highly oxidizing and therefore sanitizes incredibly effectively.
Johan Lundberg, who founded the Luleå-based company, explains:
– Ozone gas breaks down the carbon chains that bad odors are composed of, both in the air and in materials. The gas penetrates nooks and crannies and into textiles, furniture, and other materials – eliminating odors, mold spores, bacteria, dust mites, allergens. At the same time, the cleaning is gentle on all materials, thanks to Ozoneair's unique technology.
The smell had taken hold in the gear
Camilla Eklund, who lives in the village of Häradsbygden outside Leksand, used her device in the stable.
– We muck out and sweep every day and clean with a high-pressure washer in the summer, but of course, it smells in a stable. The odors can be caused by ammonia from horse manure, sweat, wet blankets, damp manes and coats, and so on.
Adjacent to the stable is the "tack room," a room that has ventilation but lacks windows, so it's not possible to air it out.
– We store things there, and it had started to smell stuffy, almost like cat pee – an odor we couldn't get rid of no matter how we cleaned, and which had taken hold in the gear.
How Camilla sanitized her stable gear
Camilla got the tip to try Ozoneair.
– We placed the machine in the stable aisle, closed the stable windows, and opened the door to the tack room so that the ozone gas would sanitize there.
Ozoneair worked for four hours.
– Afterwards, the air was completely different. It smells fresh and neutral, the typical stable smell is gone. I left our helmets, saddles, and other gear out in the tack room so they would be cleaned by the ozone. Everything felt super fresh afterwards.
